Cheraw is the most colourful Mizo dance. Bamboos are used in this dance. Hence the dancer moves by stepping alternatively in and out from between and across a pair of horizontal bamboos, held against the ground by people sitting face to face at either side. They tap the bamboos open and close in rhythmic beats. Two bases support the bamboos, placed horizontally one at each end. The bamboos, when clapped, produce a sharp sound, which forms the rhythm of the dance. It indicates the timing of the dance as well. The dancers step in and out to the beats of the bamboos with ease and grace. The patterns and stepping of the dance have many variations. Sometimes the steppings are made in imitation of the movements of birds, sometimes the swaying of trees and so on.
Little is known about the origin of Cheraw. It may be possible that the forefathers of the Mizos brought it with them when they left home in far east-Asia. Cheraw is performed on any occasion these days. But so goes the legend. It used to be performed in earlier times only to ensure a safe passage for a dead child to paradise. (i) The beats of bamboos

    (ii) The beats of drums

(iv) The sound of a whistle

    (d)  The statement - ………………………is correct :

    Dear Sir,

Subject: skyrocketing prices of food articles

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the steep surge in the prices of food items.

I don’t understand how the people of this country are supposed to survive these trying times. Especially since 40% of the population is below poverty lines. It has become extremely difficult to make both ends meet. There is clearly a lack of balance when it comes to income and expenditure.

The gap between the wholesale prices and retail prices are shocking. We the common people are paying exorbitant prices for daily needs out of meagre salaries.

I think the government should either pave way for a mandatory wage hike, or it should formulate plans to bring the wholesale and retail prices at par. I request the authorities to alleviate the distress of the common man.

    Thanking you

Respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends, a very good morning to all of you. Today, I am going to talk about the laziness that plagues school going children.

These days our lives have become so hectic and limited to school and tuitions alone. We hardly get time for physical activities. When weekends come, all of us become so exhausted and lazy that we end up doing pretty much nothing. Instead of going out and playing or indulging in any productive physical activities, we devote all of our free time to chatting, watching TV, etc. If at all we go out with friends or family, we straightaway prefer junk food. All this has lead to obesity, high blood pressure and many other lifestyle-related diseases.

A disciplined lifestyle with a healthy diet and adequate exercise is the need of the hour. Let us all pledge to save ourselves from obesity and laziness and live a healthy and happy life.

    Thank you.

    Marks:5
    Answer:

That day my father came home with a kitten. He said he had found it lying under the car. He was at his office parking lot and was about to get into the driver’s seat when he heard a “mew”. He checked under the car and saw an adorable little kitten hiding there. He said he couldn’t leave the kitten on the roadside so he brought him home.

We named him Dumpy and he took an instant liking to everyone. We gave him milk and it drank all of it blissfully. As Dumpy grew a little older, he got a lot naughty. Soon, the food started to disappear and when he found something worth chasing, he would jump on tables, causing our flower vases to crash on the floor. Then my mother saw scratches on our furniture. One day, she found my sister’s socks torn into shreds and decided that she had had enough with his behaviour. She took Dumpy and gave it to our neighbour. My sister and I were very sad.
